Music at Orange Congregational Church

Music is an active and vibrant part of the ministry of the Orange Congregational Church. Under the guidance of the Board of Music Ministry, four musical ensembles lead the congregation in services to worship the triune God.

Our choirs are conducted by Bryan Campbell, our Music Director, with assistance from Cindy Chandler, the director of our Junior Choir as well as many lay volunteer members.

Our Junior Choir is an ensemble for children in the second through the sixth grade which compliments the Christian education program. Our Junior Choir is led by Cindy Chandler, who brings her talent and dedication to the instruction and guidance of our children. In the choir the children are encouraged to 'find' their singing voices and developing their musical skills. The boys and girls receive instruction in reading music and using the hymnal. They learn several age-appropriate anthems and hymns throughout the school year.  This choir sings for worship one Sunday per month and at the special festivals of Christmas and Holy Week. The Junior Choir rehearses weekly following Church School on Sundays.

Our Handbell Choir is an extraordinary instrumental ensemble. Many adults share their enjoyment of music by ringing a full compliment of five octaves of Schummelrich handbells and handchimes. The number of ringers is enhanced by many individuals who substitute play at our rehearsals and worship services. The Handbell Choir offers beautiful music for the worship of God at the 10 o’clock service on Sundays. This choir plays at handbell festivals and provides music for various charity and community events also. The Handbell Choir rehearses one evening per week.

Our Senior Choir is the musical ensemble which offers glorious music each Sunday morning. The thirty volunteer members are comprised of high schoolers and adults who enjoy raising their voices in praise. The friendly people of the choir are a family within the larger church. The Senior Choir draws its membership from the surrounding communities, many of whom sing in other outstanding musical ensembles. The choir sings a variety of musical repertoire from historic Classical composers, sacred hymn favorites, and multicultural sources. The choir performs larger choral works with guest musicians. The Senior Choir leads the congregation in worship on Sunday mornings and it rehearses one evening per week.

The new pipe organ will soon sound forth in the beautiful meetinghouse.  The firm of J.H. and C.S. Odell of East Hampton, Conn., is completing construction of the instrument which incorporates some of the pipes of the older Woodruff Memorial Organ.  In September of 2010 the installation of the instrument commences.  The Pipe Organ Renovation and Fund Raising Committee is charged with the execution of this large project.  The choirs and congregation will hear the tones of the pipes beginning for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season.  Soli Deo Gloria.
